About the Event
What: Public Records & Immigration Training When: Tuesday, Jan. 28, 3-5 p.m. Where: Faith in Action's DC office, 999 N. Capitol St., NE, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20002
Secretive and unaccountable government policies and practices have been a hallmark of recent immigration enforcement actions. Congregation Action Network (CAN) is partnering with Open the Government (OTG) to host a free workshop for faith partners on January 28. The training will help participants learn how to use federal and state laws like the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to uncover facts about the interplay between local governments and the larger immigration system.
Attendees will work together to determine the types of data or records that would be most useful for their work, then collectively create and file information requests seeking the information. OTG will act as a clearinghouse to track information requests, help with appeals, and analyze responses.
Registration is required because space is limited to 20 attendees. The registration deadline is noon on January 24.
