About the Fund
The CAN COVID-19 Emergency Fund supports immigrant families identified by faith communities across the DMV who don’t qualify for local, state, or federal support. Funds will be used to replace income and pay for immediate health expenses, rent, groceries, utilities, tuition, and work authorizations.
Ways to Donate
-
Donate by check. Send checks to CAN COVID-19 Emergency Fund, Temple Sinai, 3100 Military Rd., NW, Washington DC 20015. Attention Noah Benjamin.
How Donations are Managed
All donations are tax deductible.
Donations online or by check are deposited into an account managed by CAN member Temple Sinai. Online donations to the CAN COVID-19 Emergency Fund will go to a Faith in Action giving platform and will be sent to a PayPal account hosted by Temple Sinai. Temple Sinai has generously offered to collect and hold the funds on CAN’s behalf until they are disbursed. (Donation receipts will come from Temple Sinai.)
How Donations Will be Distributed
All funds collected will go directly to our congregations to support those most affected by this crisis. (See fund guidelines here.) A committee representing affected congregations in our Network will work with CAN leaders to determine the level of disbursement of funds to each congregation that is supporting affected individuals. Currently we have eight to 10 heavily affected faith communities. Please reach out to Lead Organizer Omar Angel Perez if your congregation is working directly with affected individuals.
