Latest updates on the federal class action lawsuit filed by the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights and the National Immigration Project on behalf of two women detained unlawfully and in inhumane conditions in holding rooms at the George Fallon Federal Building in Baltimore, Maryland.
On July 11, the US District court for Maryland (Northern Division) granted plaintiffs' motion to file a second amended complaint in the class action lawsuit challenging ICE’s inhumane detention practices in Baltimore’s Hold Room. The updated complaint adds new allegations about the plaintiffs’ unlawful detention and challenges what appears to be a new policy limiting ICE's release discretion. In parallel, a court hearing is set for July 29 on expedited motions for class certification and a preliminary injunction to stop ICE from using the Hold Room as an unlawful residential detention facility.
